Taking a post-Covid look at AI adoption by industry

As Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella put it on the company’s fiscal Q320 earnings call on April 29,

As COVID-19 impacts every aspect of our work and life, we have seen 2 years’ worth of digital transformation in 2 months.

Things are changing very quickly in certain areas of the technology sector and so surveys we did prior to January 2020 are now somewhat out of date, at least in terms of the survey respondents near-term planning, which has now been radically altered by Covid-19.

So I thought it would be useful to take the data we had on adoption plans across six industries – healthcare, financial services, retail, manufacturing, energy and media/entertainment – and make informed projections about the leading and lagging use cases.
